Nikita, ‘Sideswipe’

I’ve just had the pleasure of watching the latest episode of Nikita, ‘Sideswipe’.

This week focuses on Nikita and Amanda’s relationship – more specifically what Amanda actually wants from Nikita. The episode starts, however, with Nikita, Michael and Birkhoff teaming up to capture a rogue agent – Cyrus. Once they have him back in Division, they make a deal with him to capture Amanda and Ari. Nikita goes along on a deal to get a sideswipe (a device that diverts rockets, and other things), but Cyrus escapes. However, he leaves a trail of clues for Nikita so that she can find Amanda.

Amanda realises this, and sends Nikita a message. They decide to split up – Nikita and Michael go after Amanda and Cyrus, Alex goes after Ari. Michael makes a quick phone call before he leaves, and then the 2 of them enter Amanda’s former hideout (she’s already left). They find Cyrus, who tells them to leave as he’s strapped to a bomb, but Nikita refuses, and beats Amanda at her own game via satellite, before rescuing Cyrus. Meanwhile, Ari is already aware of Alex’s presence and ambushes her and her team. They’re about to get killed when Sean swoops in and saves the day, killing all of the enemies except Ari (who escapes).

Whilst the teams are away, Birkhoff finally manages to track down the mole and… I WAS RIGHT. It’s Sonya. She gives an excuse about Amanda having her kill chip reactivated and there being a second mole who she doesn’t know. Birkhoff agrees to help her and keeps her secret from the others (though I’m still not convinced). The episode ends with Nikita and Ryan letting Cyrus back out into the world to work for Division again.

It was a very strong episode, and one of the most enjoyable episodes of the series. We got answers to some intriguing questions, and there are new questions that have popped up that we need answers to. I can’t wait for the next episode in the new year.
