Comedy Central at SDCC South Park and more

Matt and Trey comic-con fans have reason to celebrate. Trey Parker and Matt Stone make their highly predicted return to San Diego Comic-Con 2025 after nearly a decade away. Comedy Central is transforming the convention experience with an exclusive Hall H panel that brings together animation powerhouses and pairs the South Park creators with Beavis And Butt-Head’s Mike Judge and andy samberg south park enthusiasts know from Digman! on Thursday, July 24. Comedy Central also created an immersive South Park activation in downtown San Diego.

Comedy Central Hall H Panel Featuring South Park Creators

This panel brought together four animation legends for a single hour. New South Park episodes debuted on July 23, and the Season 2 premiere of Digman! followed. Moderator Josh Horowitz guided the conversation and addressed the controversy surrounding the Season 27 premiere that aired just 24 hours earlier.

Parker delivered a deadpan response to questions about the episode’s unflattering depiction of Trump: “We’re terribly sorry”. The creators revealed their intense production schedule. Parker admitted they were at South Park that morning and worked on the following week’s episode. Stone connected their comedy roots to Monty Python and added a pointed comment about PBS funding cuts that earned applause from attendees.

The discussion turned to network notes when Parker shared that executives wanted to blur Trump’s penis in the premiere episode. His response was direct: “No, you’re not gonna blur the penis”. Stone explained the compromise. Adding eyes to the anatomy transformed it into a character.

Parker described their creative process for the controversial episode. They finalized the story just three days before airtime while reading news headlines and deciding what to include. The panel gave behind-the-scenes explanation from over 30 years in animation.

South Park Activation Transforms Downtown San Diego

Comedy Central reshaped Quartyard at 1301 Market St into an immersive South Park experience running July 25-26 from 11am to 11:30pm.

The venue went through complete transformation. El Comal became DikinBaus Hot Dogs, Seahorse Coffee turned into Tweek Bros., and the bar reimagined itself as Crunchy’s Micro Brew serving specialty South Park themed cocktails. Custom artwork wrapping covered every container and converted Quartyard into an authentic fan space.

Activities included interactive photo moments. Attendees joined group shots in South Park Elementary class photo setups. Spencer’s debuted exclusive merch drops on site and featured limited-edition apparel and collectibles available only at the activation. The experience also featured fan favorite episodes, behind the scenes screenings, giveaways, trivia competitions and karaoke sessions.

The cosplay contest featured ten categories: most original costume, most creative costume, best stage performance and presentation, funniest costume, best couples costume, plus dedicated categories for best Cartman, Kenny, Kyle, Stan and Butters costumes. The activation concluded with an outdoor screening of the newest South Park episode on the big screen.

Comedy Central’s SDCC 2025 presence marked an important return for South Park fans. The Hall H panel reunited animation legends and offered insights into their creative process. The downtown activation delivered an experience that transforms Quartyard into an authentic South Park environment. We’ve outlined the practical access methods attendees need. This combination of panels and public activations created opportunities for both badge holders and casual fans to celebrate their favorite animated series.
