Outlander and Blood of My Blood Double Feature Panel at SDCC 2025

The outlander comic-con 2025 event marked a historic milestone as the series graced Hall H for the first time in its 12 years on the air. This double feature panel brought together the original Outlander cast and the upcoming Blood of My Blood prequel series. It created a memorable experience for fans at SDCC 2025. Sam Heughan, alongside Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, and the Blood of My Blood cast, delivered reveals that left audiences buzzing. We witnessed the revealing of the final season trailer. Blood of My Blood premieres on August 8 with two back-to-back episodes. In this piece, I’ll break down the announcements and surprise moments during this landmark outlander comic con 2025 panel.

Outlander Comic Con 2025: Hall H Hosts Double Panel Event

Starz offered both panels in Hall H on Friday, July 25. The original Outlander series took the 10:00 AM slot, and Blood of My Blood followed at 11:00 AM. Executive producers Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis anchored both panels. They provided continuity between the farewell to the original series and the introduction of its prequel.

The first panel centered on Outlander’s television legacy in the last 11 years. Fans got a retrospective look at defining moments before previewing the eighth and final season. Attendees watched the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season that hour.

Raya Yarbrough delivered a live performance of The Skye Boat Song between panels. She sang this iconic theme for the first six seasons. She led a sing-along with Hall H attendees that transitioned into a bagpipe performance of Scotland the Brave. The audience was transported to the Scottish Highlands before the Blood of My Blood cast took the stage.

The prequel panel featured additional cast members. Jamie Roy appeared as Brian Fraser, and Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie. Jeremy Irvine played Henry Beauchamp, and Hermione Corfield portrayed Julia Moriston. Audiences viewed two exclusive clips. One showed Jamie’s parents and another showed Claire’s parents.

Graham McTavish Surprises Blood of My Blood Panel with Dougal Question

At the Blood of My Blood Q&A session, Graham McTavish stood up from the audience and sent Hall H into roaring applause. McTavish portrayed Dougal MacKenzie across multiple seasons of the original series. He approached the microphone to question Sam Retford, the actor cast as young Dougal in the prequel.

“Hello, I’m Graham, and I have a question for Sam. First of all, congratulations on the wig and the beard. The fact that you wear it out in public is really, really, really tremendous,” McTavish announced as the crowd erupted. The comment drew laughter because McTavish sports a bald look in Outlander, while Retford appears with a full head of hair and beard.

McTavish continued with mock sincerity. He asked how Retford managed to “explore the soft, sensitive side of Dougal”. Retford revealed he had met McTavish for the first time 48 hours before this moment at SDCC 2025. “It felt like I’d met my dad. It was very strange. I’ve studied the man for the last 18 months,” Retford explained.

Retford answered that he fell in love with Dougal upon first watching McTavish’s portrayal. He added he wanted to show “how he developed that rough, callous skin that you showed so well and how he lost all of that hair”. McTavish joked he possessed a full head of hair before season 1 filming began.

What Did Starz Reveal About Release Dates and New Content?

Starz confirmed that Outlander’s eighth and final season will premiere in early 2026 during the outlander comic-con 2025 panels. The final season consists of 10 episodes and wrapped production in fall 2024.

The panel revealed the first footage from Season 8. It showed Jamie and Claire’s return to Fraser’s Ridge. The teaser trailer included an ominous moment where Jamie reads from an American history book written by Frank Randall. He found a passage stating that “War is coming to the back country and that James Fraser dies in it”.

Matthew B. Roberts, the showrunner and executive producer, stated that the creative approach for the final season focused on not attempting to surpass everything accomplished in previous seasons during the panel.

Blood of My Blood already secured a second season renewal before its August 8, 2025 debut. The network announced this pickup in June when dropping the teaser trailer and showed confidence in the prequel series. Production on Season 2 commenced at Wardpark Film and Television Studios in Scotland, the same location where the original Outlander series filmed.

Audiences at SDCC 2025 viewed two exclusive clips from Blood of My Blood. The clips gave first looks at both Jamie’s parents and Claire’s parents in their respective time periods.

The Outlander Comic-Con 2025 double feature panel delivered everything fans hoped for and more. We witnessed exclusive trailers and learned significant premiere dates. Graham McTavish’s surprise appearance created an unforgettable moment. This Hall H event honored the original series and built excitement for Blood of My Blood successfully. The Outlander universe continues expanding, and the Fraser legacy remains in capable hands for years to come.
