Doom Patrol Season One, Episode 12 “Cyborg Patrol”

It only took 12 episodes for the team to execute a plan as a team, but we see the Doom Patrol work together to accomplish a goal.

What’s that goal?  Well, it is to rescue Cyborg from the Bureau of Normalcy, seeing as he was abducted last episode.  Fell for the oldest trick in the book…”Look at my elbow…”

There is concern from the powers that be in the Bureau of disturbing the relationship they have with Star Labs, which is where Vic’s dad works, but the head honchos are assured that nothing will happen and Star Labs will never learn of the extralegal detention of Cyborg.  There is also concern with the high-profile status that Cyborg has.

Unfortunately for the Bureau, when Silas Stone shows up at Doom Manor, he finds out anyway.  He also finds out that Vic removed Grid from his body.  Once Silas has exhausted his contacts to try to help Vic, he turns to our titular heroes to assist in freeing his son.

While this is going on, the Bureau of Normalcy is trying to decide what to do with Vic, especially since his operating system isn’t present.  While in his cell though, Vic is tortured by what appears to be the rebooting of Grid, even after its removal.  Grid is monitoring the percentage of cybernetics in Vic, and it is steadily climbing, along with Grid wanting to run diagnostics and playing clips from Vic’s accident and subsequent recovery/rebuilding.

I’m sure there are easter eggs in this episode, especially the walking butts, but they are lost on me due to not reading the comics.  I enjoyed the team work this episode, and the twists to the plan.  If the show runners could stick to a feel like this, I think they would have a hit on their hands.  As it is, this is the rare episode that I’ve really enjoyed.

With three more episodes to go, let’s get ready to see where the team goes, and how they handle Mr. Nobody.  If there is not some resolution to that story arc, I’ll be surprised.

After the events of last episode, the Patrol escapes from the Ant Farm with an extra passenger, Prisoner/Subject 722.  Of course, 722 turns out to be Flex Mentallo, who the team had been looking for to help them find The Chief.  One of the most interesting things is that Flex can understand the Negative Man.  […]

Doom Patrol Season 1, Episode 8 – “Danny Patrol”

by Andrew Abernethy on April 8, 2019
This episode largely serves as more character development for Larry.  There have been hints at his involvement with a government agency after his accident, and “Danny Patrol” feels in those gaps in his story. The episode features a powered person, thing, entity known as Danny The Street that can teleport around, along with anyone inside […]

Doom Patrol, Season 1| Episode 5, “Paw Patrol”

by Andrew Abernethy on March 18, 2019
Just when this series starts to answer some questions, it also introduces other ideas with little explanation.   The Chief is allowed to come back and help the team, but only in a “enemy of my enemy is my friend” type situation.   Mr. Nobody is so much more powerful than the team apparently, that he must […]
