Whiskey Myers Tour Dates Click Here.

Last night, I attended the Whiskey Myers concert at the Fillmore in Charlotte, NC.

The opening band was Bones Owens from Nashville, TN.  This was my first exposure to them, but after their set, I went to the merch table and bought both of their CDs (Keep It Close and Make Me No King.)  The band is comprised of just two guys, lead singer/guitarist and drummer/back-up singer.  Despite breaking the cardinal rule of not giving a drummer a microphone, they sounded great.  Definitely inspired by blues and rock, they had a feel that reminded me of the The Black Keys.  I’m already looking forward to seeing them again.

Whiskey Myers took the stage next and killed it.  One of the modern bands that is carrying on the tradition of Southern Rock, you won’t hear them on the radio around here, but they are definitely worth the listen if you haven’t heard of them.  “Ballad Of A Southern Man” is probably my favorite song of theirs.  While it could fit in on country radio, quite a few of their songs are too rocking for most country tastes.  As a fan of Lynryd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, 38 Special, and others, Whiskey Myers is right in my wheelhouse.  This was my first time seeing them in concert, and I’m already looking at traveling to Maryville, TN to see them perform in July.
