Independence Day is right around the corner, and here are five great ideas to help you plan the perfect celebration. From hosting the ultimate barbecue and drinks at home to going out to celebrate, these activities from sunrise to sunset will help make your 4th of July one of the most memorable yet:

  1. Start the day early with a bike ride or walk around your neighborhood. You’ll enjoy the exercise and fresh air before it gets too hot or you get too busy.

  1. Delight your family and friends with Latin American flavors in your 4th of July BBQ:
Treat your guests to a tour of Latin America’s best grilled foods. Start with the easy-to-make and delicious Colombian arepas and accompany them with grilled Flank Steak, Brazilian style. Add some flavors of Central America like plantains with red, white and blue tortillas for tacos of Mexican birria. And for an All-American touch, remember the baked beans.

Greet your guests with drinks from paradise:

  1. You can never go wrong with classic Mojitos to make everyone feel the breeze of the Caribbean. For the more adventurous, try Brazil’s favorite cocktail, Caipirinha, or for those of you in cooler climates, a warm specialty drink from the Andean Mountains of Colombia and Ecuador: a Canelazo.

Make sure your home can offer many entertainment options:

  1. Sports fans can stream live TV out back and enjoy the meal while watching the best plays of the World Cup. For Xfinity customers, the entertainment set up will be the easiest thing you’ll do all day. Just connect your laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable and access the Xfinity Stream app to find the World Cup Hub. With the app, you can watch anything from full games to the best highlights and goals of your favorite teams. If you haven’t missed anything from the tournament, you can also watch a list of videos of the history of the World Cup and see how those few selected teams earned their championships stars. If connectivity isn’t consistent, Xfinity customers can easily add   xFi Pods to extend the reach of their home WiFi connection.

    1. Or watch a holiday-themed movie. From the Xfinity X1 Voice Remote, say “Independence Day” or any actor or movie’s title to quickly get a list of movies and shows right on your TV screen for you to consider. Below are some suggestions (Feel free to use them as voice commands):
  1.       Independence Day (the original from 1996)
  2.       Hamilton’s America – via PBS (2016)

iii.      Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

  1.       American Graffiti (1973)
  2.       Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
  3.       Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

                                                          vii.      Top Gun (1986)

  1. Enjoy a 4th of July fireworks show at dusk.
    1. Check online to find the local offerings in your community.
    2. According to USA Today:  the best 10 firework shows in the country
    3. Houston:  Eleanor Tinsley Park where $10 will also get you performances by Chris Young and The Mavericks.
    4. Chicago: there is a ton of shows, check out this list to find the nearest one.
    5. Miami: look at this list of the top 11 sites.
    6. San Francisco: Here is a list of the best firework viewings in the Bay Area which include a beautiful display right on San Francisco’s Pier 39.
    7. Lastly, Xfinity X1 customers with Xfinity Home and light bulbs that change color can say, “Xfinity Home, Happy Fourth of July” and their lights will automatically turn red and blue to celebrate the country’s day of independence.
