The Flash “Think Fast” Review

We’re almost there, speedsters! The season finale is next week, which means DeVoe will soon be defeated (hopefully). That being said, and this being the second to last episode, I was once again kind of underwhelmed. It didn’t feel like the second to last episode of a season. While a lot seems to be wrapping up, there also seems to still be a lot up in the air.

“Think Fast” has DeVoe outsmarting Team Flash once again. He’s just too powerful at this point. At the start of the episode, he impersonates Diggle (Arrow) to get into ARGUS and where Fallout, the human nuke, is being held. DeVoe wants to use him as a radioactive battery for satellites, which will in turn start “the enlightenment.” He’s also holding staff hostage. The team catches wind of this, via a staff member to Iris’ blog, and so begins another episode of trying to outsmart The Thinker.

Suppressed Memory & A Plan

Early in the episode, Caitlin visits the therapist to talk about her lost friend. Of course, she can’t say that her “friend” is actually Killer Frost who is actually a part of her. That would be crazy talk. Anyways, the therapists suggest that Caitlin is suppressing some sort of childhood trauma, but Caitlin believes all her trauma has happened in her adult life – i.e. losing her fiancé/husband twice right in front of her. However, she soon realizes that the doctor is right.

In STAR Labs, the team deduces that they have 12 hours before DeVoe can use Fallout’s radioactive powers. So, they come up with a plan to save the hostages – whom are conveniently hovering over electrical bombs that keep changing – and stop DeVoe at the same time. Cisco and Caitlin have found a way for Barry to bring them into flash time without having to keep touching them. This way, Cisco and Caitlin (with her cold gun) can team up to breach the hostages while Barry speeds through DeVoe’s pocket dimension.the flash - 4x22 - caitlin barry ciscoSo, Barry sets out to train the pair on how to move during flash time because it’s not as easy as it looks. Caitlin and Cisco soon find that to be true as well. They both keep freezing up because they’re not relaxed and calm. Caitlin even gets thrown against a wall from the speed force energy. The blow triggers a memory from her childhood of when she fell off her bike and got hit by a car. Oh man!

Later, Caitlin gets Cisco to vibe the memory so Caitlin can have more details. As it turns out, they briefly see Killer Frost’s reflection in the bicycle mirror. This makes them realize that Frost existed in Caitlin way before the particle accelerator exploded!

Without a Hitch

Stressed and a little frustrated that Caitlin and Cisco can’t get the flash time down, Barry doesn’t want to go through with the plan. Cisco isn’t having it, though. He and Barry get into a yelling match. Cisco basically arguing that he’s not letting Barry go to save the city alone again. Eventually, Barry concedes, and the plan goes on because they’re running out of time.

The trio get to ARGUS right after DeVoe slips through his pocket dimension. Barry somehow quickly diffuses the electrical bombs the hostages are hovering over before also slipping through DeVoe’s pocket dimension. Meanwhile, Cisco and Caitlin save the hostages with mini breaches and Caitlin’s cold gun (idk what it was used for).the flash - 4x22 - the planAs for DeVoe, he sends his satellites floating up into the air. Thankfully, Barry zooms up a building and throws Amunet’s metal projectile at one and it lands. Barry’s happy believing they finally one-upped DeVoe. However, DeVoe doesn’t really seem to care. Why you ask? Well, because obviously he’s not stupid and has a backup plan. He sneaks into STAR Labs and hacks Gideon. The team realize that their satellite has been activated, but Barry can’t get into the vault with DeVoe and Gideon. Oh no! Looks like “the enlightenment” is a go!

Finding Marlize

Iris likes Harry’s advice to think of Marlize’s feelings when trying to find her. So, she enlists him to help her locate her. Harry appreciates this since he hasn’t felt very helpful lately thanks to his diminishing intelligence. – Side note: even without his smarts, Harry has still been helpful in each episode. Obviously this plotline is just to relate to the enlightenment, and probably humble Harry a bit. – However, when he starts suggesting that they enlist Marlize to be on their side to take down her husband, Iris gets annoyed and leaves Harry at the lab. Even though Marlize has essentially left her husband, she’s still not one of the good guys. She did stab Iris after all.

Harry later goes to Barry and Iris’ apartment to apologize. He bangs on the wrong door until she points him in the right direction after hearing him call for West-Allen. He walks in uninvited and she starts rambling about dragging dirt into her and Barry’s home. It’s then that she realizes where Marlize must have gone – home to London (?) where she and Clifford shared their first place together. So, she and Harry breach there and Marlize comes out ready to fight with a katana. Harry tries to talk some sense into her, but he’s not making much sense himself. Marlize recognizes he’s experiencing the first stages of “the enlightenment.”the flash - 4x22 - iris and marlizeHowever, Marlize still believes that her husband is right in wanting to go through with his plan. It’s not until Iris mentions Marlize’s old work and outlook that being optimistic is brave in this world. Iris closes her argument by asking Marlize what she’s willing to do for the world.

Inhabiting Minds

While all of this is going on, Cecile and Joe are preparing for baby. Cecile is on bed rest it seems, and Joe is packing hospital bag for the umpteenth time – katana and all (does everyone in Central City have one of these things). As we all know, Cecile’s pregnancy has given her temporary powers to hear people’s thoughts. Well, now she can completely inhabit their minds as well. She’ll randomly start inhabiting the personalities/minds of those around her. It starts with the pizza guy, then Caitlin and finally, Joe. Interesting. Side note: mad props to Danielle Nicolet for going in and out of each character seamlessly. The pizza guy’s personality had me cracking up!

The Flash season finale airs Tuesday at 8/7 on The CW!

The Flash “We are the Flash” Review

by Miranda Friel on May 28, 2018
We finally made it, speedsters! After a somewhat, in my opinion, underwhelming season, we’ve finally reached the season finale. As I stated in previous reviews, I’ve been kind of bored this season. However, the season finale didn’t disappoint. While it’s not the best season finale, it’s definitely better than a lot of the episodes this […]

The Flash “Harry and the Harrisons” Review

by Miranda Friel on May 11, 2018
To be honest, this week’s episode of The Flash seemed more like a filler episode, to me. Nonetheless, I guess it could be argued that it was still a semi-important filler episode. There was talk of DeVoe, but no actual DeVoe. The team calls upon another risky ally for help. Caitlin is determined to find […]

The Flash “Therefore She Is” Review

by Miranda Friel on May 3, 2018
Now that finding all the bus metas is out of the way, I’ve gotta say I’m more interested in the episodes now since it’s not the same repeated plotline. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It gave us a lot of answers, including Marlize’s reasoning for helping her husband, what “the enlightenment” is, and who the […]

The Flash “Fury Rogue” Review

by Miranda Friel on April 29, 2018
Episode 4×19 of The Flash focuses a lot on grief and dealing with loss while simultaneously pushing the plot of the season forward. DeVoe still needs the power of one more bus meta to reach “the enlightenment” (whatever that means) – Fallout, that guy that’s a human nuke. He’s been hiding at some secret location, […]

The Flash “Lose Yourself” Review

by Miranda Friel on April 21, 2018
I’ve gotta say, this episode of The Flash was one of the better of the season. That being said, however, it was still repetitive, in my opinion. Team Flash finds the last bus meta. They plan to stop DeVoe. They fail at stopping DeVoe, and DeVoe gets the meta. Only this time, he basically gets […]

The Flash “Null and Annoyed” Review

by Miranda Friel on April 12, 2018
After a brief hiatus, “The Flash” is back, and I’m… not really feeling it. I don’t know. I feel like the plot this season is kind of dragging, in my opinion. Call me crazy, but I’m bored with the whole bus meta thing. We’re pretty deep in the season, and it feels a bit repetitive […]
