Helen Crevel, Michelle Archer, Claire Carreno star in a Lawrence Fowler film Curse of the Witch’s Doll on VOD 2/6, DVD 3/6 and SVOD on 6/5.

The Witches Doll is a bizarre take on a horror film. The movie starts in 1940’s England. We are introduced to a young mother and her daughter, as they take refuge in a Manor House after their home in Kent had been bombed. It’s in the manor that we see the actual witches doll, who regularly pops up to try and scare the audience. Though the doll is creepy looking, it’s really pointless to the story. Soon after the movie starts, the daughter goes missing and we watch as the mother slowly goes crazy trying to find her. There madness ensues.

Overall, it had some great ideas but the execution was poor. There were several parts in this film where the director would try and do something “different” but it didn’t translate well. The director also tried using technical aspects, such as lighting and camera shots, to add symbolism to this story but once again it fell flat. The acting in this film leaves a lot to be desired. In some scenes the leads would do a decent job then in the next scene it would just fall apart. Scenes would drag on and on with no real purpose. The witches doll started slow and peaked way before it was over. It didn’t seem to really know what it wanted to be, a psychological horror or a copy cat paranormal flick.

At one point near the end we feel it could have completed with her going back into her dream state, and not going off into a “Paranormal Activity” present day story. Made no sense. This movie is not worth the time, unfortunately.
