The Tomorrow People #1.17 – Endgame
By: Anna – 24 March 2014
After finding out that Stephen’s father is frozen Jedikiah (Mark Pellegrino) tells Stephen that he loved his brother.
We begin 30 years ago when Jedikiah and Roger Price (Jeffrey Pierce) were young kids. Jedikiah feels weak and wants to have the powers that his brother has. He has a gun in which he is going to use on Roger but Roger is able to get the gun away from Jedikiah. The gun goes off but before the bullet reaches Jedikiah, Roger is able to stop the bullet in time saving his life.
To this day in the present, Jedikiah owes his life to his brother and all he ever wanted to do is protect him from the Founder (Simon Merrells) so this is why he researched and had his body frozen. The Founder has invented a machine to amplify Roger’s powers, so if Roger comes back to life he will become a threat to the Founder. Stephen believes that Jedikiah wouldn’t have done all this to save his brother if he didn’t have an Endgame to bring the Founder down. Jedikiah always has a plan.
Cara is reading a breakout similar to how she read and found Stephen.
The Founder goes to Jedikiah to advise that the machine Roger worked on is now complete and wants to move forward. He has found a test subject in Stephen as he has the same DNA as his father. The Founder is concerned that Jedikiah has grown too close to Stephen because he is his nephew and would do anything to stop this. To stop the Founder reading Jedikiah’s mine, he digs a letter holder into his hand and concentrates on the pain so his mind cannot be read, but the Founder cannot sense if Roger is alive. The Founder is determined that the operation of the machine will go forward.
Jedikiah tells Stephen that the Founder is on to him and the only way to stop him is for him to be killed. There is a reckoning between them both to kill the Founder. As Stephen cannot kill it will be up to John. That is why Jedikiah engineered him to kill as it was part of his plan. A life for a life to bring Roger back.
Cara and Russell go uptown as she senses the whereabouts of the breakout.
Stephen goes to John to explain the plan that Jedikiah has devised for him to kill the Founder. John believes there is always another way and it is not for paranormals to kill. John tries to convince Stephen that this is not what his father would want him to kill for him.
Stephen and Jedikiah try to work out a plan. Stephen believes that Cassie, the Founder’s daughter can help, who is in the Citadel being experimented on. Jedikiah always protected Stephen from being taken there. Stephen goes to the Citadel as an Ultra agent under Jedikiah’s orders and breaks Cassie out teleporting back to the lair.
We flashback to where Roger is practising his powers with Jedikiah helping him with research. This is where a partnership will be formed with the Founder.
Cara finds the breakout at a dance academy, but Ultra have also found her. Cara and Russell kick some ass and teleport the girl back to the lair. We find out that she is Cara’s sister, Sophie. Cara explains to her about her powers but she wants no part of them but to be normal and be a dancer.
Back at the lair, John advises Cara that there is a way to get out of this war by killing the Founder and that they would have their freedom. She totally agrees.
The Founder has found out that Cassie has been freed.
John meets with Jedikiah but doesn’t trust his plans. Jedikiah tells John that he knew about the deception that Stephen was a double agent from the beginning. He was the one that lead the Tomorrow People to him to be a double agent. John is unhappy that Jedikiah ruined his life with the conspiracy that he believed that he killed Roger. But Jedikiah said that this was all part of his plan. John hates himself and knows the only way to end the war is for him to kill the Founder.
Cara takes Sophie to Astrid so she can watch over her from Ultra while the plan goes down. Astrid explains to Sophie the Tomorrow People’s life underground. Sophie wants to dance and not have her life taken away and be in hiding.
The Founder is held up at a secret hideout for paranormal super villains with super grade government defences plus his personal bodyguards. The only way to unlock the door is with Cassie’s DNA.
Flashback where Jedikiah and Roger meet the Founder. The Founder was to do a cutting edge research on their species to have a new kind of Tomorrow People to develop telekinetic surgery, telepathic psychotherapy and teleportation to redefine life on the planet. The Founder tells Roger he is more powerful than him through mind reading. Jedikiah is feeling left out.
John brings Jedikiah to the lair to he can hack into Ultra’s mainframe via TIM to find out details of the compound and to disable the gate. Russell is needed to watch over him. Cara and John say their farewells in case something goes wrong.
Astrid takes Sophie to the Academy of Dancing so she can perform. Cara finds out and is not happy. It will jeopardise the mission as she goes after her sister.
The Founder senses an intruder on the property but Cassie telepaths to her father. Cassie is a decoy to get into the mansion. John and Stephen wait for their chance to teleport in to the Founder’s home. Unfortunately, they encounter Ultra men and a fight erupts.
The Founder tries to play Stephen against Jedikiah that it is Jedikiah who is the evil one. He used Cassie to build the machine for power. Stephen is unsure which side to believe. John eventually takes the shot at the Founder but he stops the bullet in time accidently turning it on his daughter, killing her.
The mission went sideways. Cassie is dead. Russell was forced by Jedikiah to bring him topside and Stephen goes after him back at Ultra.
Cara takes Sophie back to her world of dancing. So Ultra won’t find her she places a suppression cuff on her and will have Stephen erase any trace of her on the mainframe back at Ultra. They say their farewells but will keep in touch now that they have found each other.
Our final flashback is where Jedikiah makes demands on the Founder regarding the use of his brother’s powers. Roger will do whatever Jedikiah says. The Founder knows that Jedikiah is jealous of his brother’s powers because he missed out on them.
Stephen finds his uncle at Ultra packing up to run from the Founder. He confronts him about his jealousy to destroy his family. Jedikiah denies it was not jealousy and that it was not Roger’s powers that saved his life that day when they were kids but Roger’s love and humanity that saved him.
Stephen doesn’t know who to believe, what to do and will have to decide who he is. Only humanity can save them all. So who do we believe – the Founder or Jedikiah?
