By Anna: The Tomorrow People – #1.21 “Kill Switch”
April 28, 2014
We begin a few minutes before we left off last episode when Hilary sacrifices herself with a bomb strapped to her to kill The Founder. John has been stripped of his powers and is now human wandering the halls of Ultra.
Stephen rushes into The Founder’s office just as the bomb goes off. The blast causes Stephen to have flashback memories of Hilary. The Founder emerges from the rubble and has survived, he should have been dead. Stephen teleports straight back to the Underground.
Jedikiah goes to a Senator to tell him about Area 51 and that Bathory wants to dehumanise the race. The Senator thinks Jedikiah is crazy and has security called and whisks him away to a psych ward.
After learning about the bomb, Roger wants to take his family and run. Stephen doesn’t want to run even if The Founder knows his father is alive. As we know The Founder wants Roger to power up The Machine to kill all humans. The Founder knows that Stephen will be his replacement.
John finds his way back to the Underground with some help from Russell. He tells Cara his powers have been taken. He came back with a message from The Founder that Cara must negotiate a real truth or The Tomorrow People will end up like John.
Cara, Russell Jody and Natalie go to see The Founder. He will let them free if they bring Roger to him. The tracer injected in some of The Tomorrow People also has a switch which can kill them planted in their cerebellums. To prove that he means business he kills Jody. The Founder will kill one paranormal every hour.
Russell is not calm knowing he is a walking time bomb and doesn’t trust The Founder. Natalie wants to tell the others and stir things up. Now they must figure out how they will get the tracker removed from their cerebellums. Irene the geneticist needs Jody’s body to figure out to do this which is at the morgue and they will need Jedikiah’s help if they are to find a cure to remove the tracer kill switch.
Jedikiah is locked up as a loony. Marla goes to the psych ward to free Jedikiah and they teleport out.
Cara, Stephen and John go to the morgue where they find Jody’s body to take back to the Underground. They encounter a guard and even though John has no powers he pulls his gun on him to draw attention away from the others. Stephen teleports the body out and Cara stays behind to help John. John decides not to go back with Cara and go out on his own being human.
Russell is frustrated not knowing if he could be next with the kill switch.
Roger shows Marla how to protect herself with some sparring techniques.
Jedikiah and Irene work to together to try and find an antidote with the help of TIM. To stop Stephen lurking over Jedikiah while working in the lab, TIM finds a diversion for Stephen at a Department of Defence facility at the Long Lake Dam where the computers are held controlling the trackers inside The Tomorrow People’s brains. There is a scream and one more The Tomorrow Person is killed. The clock has been reset for 60 minutes.
Stephen and Cara go off to the Mountains and leave Russell in charge. Cara confronts Stephen as she hacks into his mind how he feels about Hilary. She says she is scared as she has to be the strong one and especially now that John is gone and she is alone. Stephen is scared too.
John is topside and goes to the only person he knows he can trust, Astrid now that he is human. John tells Astrid that the world is coming to an end and she should prepare herself. John is not dealing with the loss of his powers. Astrid tells him it’s not his power that made him useful or important, funny, kind, strong or special. She reminds him that it was human Astrid that saved John when he was shot. A taxi drives out of control nearly hitting Astrid but John pushes her out of the way to save her. She tells him that he saved her life again but he won’t bat for humanity. Astrid believes John is the strongest person but stubborn and wants to know why he is hiding all his courage. She kisses him. John decides to go back to the Underground. He gives Astrid his lucky jacket and says he will be back for it and the next time he kisses her will not be because the world is ending.
Back in the lab where Irene and Jedikiah are trying to find an antidote, Irene finds the protein marker which makes paranormals’ power but not the cure. With this knowledge Jedikiah starts to think and injects Irene in the neck so he can test a theory to change from a homosapien.
Roger tries to prepare The Tomorrow People for The Founder with an attack on Ultra. Natalie doesn’t believe in him anymore after coming back from being a popsicle. Russell puts a suppression cuff on him. Roger fights but is outnumbered by his kind. Marla comes to his rescue and knocks them all out except Natalie has Luca. Roger gives himself up and is taken to Ultra and The Founder. Russell wants the tracers out of his head. The Founder finds out that his network has been taken down and the tracers no longer work. The Tomorrow People didn’t have to hand over Roger but they did. What they didn’t know was that Stephen and Cara were at the Government Facilities taking out the network.
When Stephen learns that his father has been taken to Ultra, he rushes back home. He goes to tell his mother that he won’t go with them but they must get away from the epicentre of The Machine.
John wants to go back topside to be with Astrid as she shouldn’t be alone. So Cara goes topside to find her and teleports her back to the Underground. Cara realises that she is losing John to Astrid.
Roger is strapped to The Machine and it is turned on. It begins.
We end the show with Jedikiah teleporting topside and now become a paranormal with powers, something he has always wanted. What will he do with these powers? Will he help The Tomorrow People or not?
