It is 6 months after the Singularity attack on Central City and Barry is guilt ridden with the death of Eddie and that he should have saved his mum. He decides he can no longer let his friends help him protect Central City so pushes them away to go it alone. With the threat of a new meta-human he will need the help of his friends.
We begin with the Flash up against Captain Cold and Heat Wave. Firestorm has joined forces with the Flash to take them down. Back at S.T.A.R Labs, the Flash Team congratulates Barry on his victory, but wait Eddie is alive and Dr Harrison Wells believes Barry can save the city on his own. It appears that Barry is envisaging a parallel reality when he comes back to reality at the Lab. Barry has decided to save Central City on his own and run.
Joe and Barry are investigating a murder which has all the indications of a meta-human being involved. Meanwhile, the city wants to honor the Flash with a Flash Day and give him a key to the city which Barry is not too keen on. Lurking is a photographer taking photos of Barry from a distance. Joe and Cisco are now working together with the meta-human task force. Cisco has built an electro-shock ankle bracelet to bring down meta-humans called the “boot”. Cisco would also like a badge for working at CCPD.
Iris is still coming to terms with the loss of Eddie.
Iris goes to talk to Barry to try and get him to go to the rally in honor of the Flash. At night we find out that Barry is trying to rebuild the city.
We go back to the day of the singularity to learn what really happened. The Flash was able to stabilize the singularity but they needed to separate the inner and outer layers in the eye of it. So Ronnie and Prof. Stein merge as one as FIRESTORM to separate the layers. They are successful but Ronnie and Stein’s bodies are separated and Ronnie is killed. But did he die? I’m sure we will see him again at some point. So the Flash didn’t actually save the city of his own, he had some help.
The day of Flash Day occurs and the Mayor gives the key to the city to the Flash. Barry turns up to accept the key in front of the people of the city and his friends. There is an attack on the Flash by a meta-human. Cisco seems to have a memory flash of this meta-human. Joe pulls him out the memory and to get the boot to take him down but it doesn’t work.
This meta-human is super human and sucks up radiation especially from the x-ray machines from the hospitals and looks like the guy that was earlier killed identified as Rothstein.
Caitlin is now working at Mercury Labs and Cisco goes to her for help.
Barry is paid a visit by Harrison Wells’ attorney who apparently left S.T.A.R Labs to Barry as part of his living trust. The attorney hands Barry a video message from Dr Wells to watch. Barry gets an alert at the Lab and runs off to find, Joe, Iris, Cisco and Stein working together to locate the meta-human. Stein comes up with the name of the Atom Smasher (Adam T Copeland) because he absorbs atomic power and smashers things. Barry is reluctant to have help from the Team. He will learn the hard way that he needs his friends.
We flashback to Barry as a child where he is missing his parents and Joe is trying to help him and cares for him.
Barry fights the Atom Smasher and barely makes it back to the Lab before he goes unconscious. Joe sits with him while he becomes conscious and tells him it’s time to come back and accept the help of his friend and stop taking the blame for what happened with the singularity. Barry’s first attempt is to make amends with Caitlin for Ronnie’s death. Caitlin blames herself and she grieves every day. Barry and Caitlin watch Dr Wells’ living Will. Wells confesses to the murder of Nora Allen which will enable Barry’s dad to be freed from prison. Hopefully the evidence will be enough to release Henry.
Barry now comes to terms that he needs his Team. To defeat the Atom Smasher he needs radiation and that’s what they will give him to contain him. Apparently, the Atom Smasher was promised to be taken home if he killed the Flash by “Zoom”. This will be the new enemy of the Flash for the season.
Barry goes to Iron Heights to meet his dad as he is released from prison. A quirky saying “I will race you” a throwback from the old Flash and the new Flash. A welcome home party for father and son. There is a downside to the homecoming, Henry Allen is leaving so that Barry Allen can be the Flash and be with his Team. Prof Stein gives a speech that they are moving “forward” based on Kadima. We will see a new Team going forward this season as they are emotionally maturing and getting stronger.
The Team is all back at the Lab and Cisco has updated the suit. We see the first look of the white crest. Caitlin has also upgraded security of the Lab. An unwanted visitor arrives, Jay Garrick, who comes with a message “your world is in danger”.
