We start “The Rising Son” episode with the demons protecting the throne in Hell waiting on Lord Lucifer. They are sure that he would return and make Hell great again then there is a light and we are introduced to another Prince of Hell- Asmodeus. He is there to rule Hell until Lucifer returns with his son. Asmodeus starts his rule by killing those who didn’t want support Lucifer and telling the three he spared that there is a new sheriff in town. Sam and Dean are taking Jack back to the bunker and they are still bickering on how to handle Jack. We go back to the apocalyptic world to see Lucifer and Mary talking about how Lucifer needs Mary to get out of there by using Mary as a bargaining chip with Sam and Dean to get his son back.
Asmodeus has the demons scouring hell to find Lucifer as well as find Jack. He wants to help Jack harness his knowledge and untapped power and rule Hell by Jack’s side. Sam and Dean pull over for the night with Jack to get some sleep and we get to see an interaction between Dean and Jack. Dean gave Jack a bible to read before they ate and while eating dinner we see Jack copy Dean with his mannerisms and Jack begins to inquire about Lucifer and why he is in the bible so much. The boys try to get to the bottom of Jack’s powers and Jack is still not aware of everything that he is capable of doing. A man in a trench coat comes to the hotel to find Sam and Dean and when they open the door to bring the stranger inside, the stranger says “Is God with you?”.
The stranger is actually Donatello a prophet and he is drawn to where the boys are because he is drawn to the power that Jack possesses. Sam and Dean begin to wonder that if the power is strong enough to bring Donatello here then who else could also be heading their way. The solution that the boys have to keep Jack safe is to ward him with their signature tattoo. Jack is able to heal himself and remove the ward. Sam, Dean, and Donatello have the conversation of did Jack heal himself because he didn’t want to be warded or just because he can’t control it. Dean takes this all as a sign that Jack is the devil and that he can’t be saved like Sam thinks. Jack leaves when Sam and Dean are arguing and Sam finds him outside and tells Jack that he has some special powers and that Jack needs protecting because of it but Dean also feels that because of the powers that the humans need protecting. Sam says that Dean really just cares too much and thinks he needs to save everyone.
Dean visits the bar at the hotel and the waitress becomes a little too interested in them and come to find out that it is Asmodeus. Donatello comes back to the hotel room in the morning and Jack stayed in his room but Donatello questions Sam with does he know how powerful Jack will be. The lore says that the Nephilim will become more powerful than the angel that sired him. Sam tells Donatello that he hopes Jack can be molded because he is a lot like his mother and his mother was really good.
We are taken back to Mary and she has ran into another hunter who tries to take advantage of her but Lucifer comes to her rescue. Lucifer says it’s a win win for them to work together for them to get back to their boys.
Dean comes back to the room to pack up and Sam tells Dean that he understands why Dean is being the way that he is. While they are talking-Donatello walks in and says that he wants to talk about Jack and Sam says that they already did and they realize that it was someone or something else and run to find out that Jack is gone. While trying to figure out who took Jack, Donatello feels Jack’s power and starts to go after him. Dean goes to get the weapons and is attacked by a demon and then he is saved by Sam. The word is out that Jack is alive and around. Next we see Jack and Donatello talking about God and that God has a message for Jack to use his gifts and to fulfill his destiny. The impersonator of Donatello says that Jack needs to use his gifts to save some of God’s best troops, the Shedim, from Hell. Sam, Dean, and the real Donatello are on the way to get Jack but they have read up on the lore that this gate of hell is going to release an unimaginable evil.
Mary and Lucifer encounter some angels in the other world that are under the impression that Lucifer is dead as he was killed by the arch angel Michael but since they don’t believe he is who he says he is-Lucifer kills them all with a simple snap of his fingers. Then we are introduced to none other than the arch angel himself-Michael.
Asmodeus still portraying Donatello has convinced Jack to open the gate and even though Jack is close, they are interrupted by Sam and Dean and Jack stops. Dean shoots Asmodeus so he will reveal him true self. Asmodeus while suffocating Sam, Dean, and Donatello, he appeals to Jack that he can give him the world. Jack gets mad that Asmodeus is hurting his friends and begins to get angry and then Asmodeus disappears.
Back to Michael, Mary, and Lucifer- Michael says the killed his Lucifer in the skies above Abilene but that he can’t get enough of a good thing so the two of them fight. Michael says that he made need Lucifer.
Dean and Sam are still at odds over Jack because Dean fears that what happened today with Jack saving them was not a sign of good but merely a reflex. Dean walks in on Jack stabbing himself repeatedly trying to figure out what he is and Jack states that he is afraid he will hurt someone since he does not know what he is and what he is capable of. Dean tells Jack that if it comes down to killing him that he will be the one to do it.
