In Supernatural fashion-let’s start with “The Road So Far”- We left off at the end of last season with the Nephilim being born and already being what appears in the shadows to be a teenager already, the disappearance of Mary Winchester to the other world, and the demise of Crowley death of Castiel. So, we left off with some big things happening and bringing the boys back to the front of the war for humanity. Sam and Dean both have their opinions regarding Jack, the Nephilim but Castiel was sure that the Nephilim was good and took after his mother rather than his father Lucifer. So that brings us to “NOW”- Jack mistakes’ Sam to be his father and while Sam is trying to be his amazingly kind self and reach Jack-cue Dean and his act now ask questions later mentality and walks in and shoots Jack. Dean’s actions gave us our first glimpse at the powers that the Nephilim possesses. Jack has knocked out the boys and he then ventures off on the road to find his father and has an awkward encounter with a pirate at a drive thru. The sheriff arrives and you see a change in Jack’s eyes and you begin to really wonder is he good or is he bad? Could Cas had been wrong?
Angels come to the house for the Nephilim and find Cas and Kelly dead. We pan back to the Sheriff’s office where Jack is now being questioned to help find his father. While watching this-all I could think about was that Jack has some similarities to Castiel in the early seasons with his demeanor. Sam and Dean get to Pirate Pete’s and learns that Jack is at the Sheriff’s office but while Sam is on the phone with Sheriff Barker-she is running Jack’s fingerprint to find nothing there. While Jack is learning about his love of chocolate and nougat-he begins to hear voices in his head and he begins to stumble out of the room to enter into the sheriff’s department to find Sam and Dean waiting for him.
Dean is questioned by the Sheriff and he tells her everything from who him and his brother are to who and what Jack is. While Dean is having a tell all with the sheriff, Sam and Jack talk and Sam tries to learn how Jack can speak for being not even a day old, how his powers work, and if Jack can open the rip between the two worlds. While talking to Sam, Jack reveals that he believes Castiel is his father because Kelly, his mother, told him that it was a cruel world and that Castiel would protect him so he chose him to be his father. Sam knows that Jack is good but Dean still can’t shake the fact that he is the son of Lucifer. Dean has talked the sheriff into letting them all leave but their exit is stopped when the angels looking for Jack show up at the department. The angels find Jack and Sam in the cells and fight to take Jack but Sam comes to the rescue and blasts the two angels back to Heaven. When another angel comes back to the cells-she stabs Jack with an angel blade and we learn that Jack can’t be killed by that as he just pulls it out of his chest.
Sam and Dean have agreed to have Jack come back to the bunker with them. Dean is still sure that Jack is bad but he wants to be able to have Jack close that when it all does hit the fan that Jack is close enough for Dean to handle it. Dean lost his best friend when Castiel died-he is praying to God to bring him back along with his mom and Crowley. We see a desperate side of Dean when he is praying because he would do just about anything to have them all back. We get back into the house where this all started with Jack for Jack to see that Castiel is dead and Castiel to be given a hunter’s funeral. The episode ends back in to apocalyptic world with Mary running from Lucifer and watching him say he could kill her or he could use her. Lucifer always has a bigger plan in mind to get what he wants.
Supernatural airs on The CW on Thursdays at 8/7c.
