First, and foremost, I’d like to take the time to congratulate the cast and crew of Pretty Little Liars on their 100th episode!
This week’s episode begins with Hannah and Travis outside looking through a telescope to study a planet for astronomy. He can tell that Hannah’s mind is elsewhere and tells her that she doesn’t have to walk into school tomorrow with Ali. Hannah tells him that she knows she doesn’t have to, but that it’s understood that that’s what they’ll all do. She doesn’t want to continue being one of Ali’s puppets and he tells her that people know who she really is. Hannah’s been struggling lately with who she is, so I think his comment had perfect timing.
Aria and Fitz are walking down the street discussing Shauna’s death and Aria’s guilt. They see Ali talking to someone inside of a car and she tells them that it was someone her dad knows who dropped her off. As she’s talking to Aria and Fitz, they see a bus pull up across the street and out walks Jenna. Oh no…anyone else experiencing déjà vu?!
Spencer and Toby are at Spencer’s house discussing the situation with her father and the whole Ali saga. As Toby is telling her that it’s ok for her to close the door on Ali, he receives a phone call. The phone call is from Jenna, who he says he hasn’t spoken to since she moved to New York. Spencer seems suspicious, given the events that took place in New York, but she doesn’t say anything. Toby tells her that Jenna barely got the words out, but that Shauna is dead and it seems she was murdered.
The girls all gather and discuss the arrival of Jenna and the news that Shauna’s death was discovered. Aria tells Spencer to tell Toby the truth about what happened to Shauna. Ali also uses the gathering to reassure the girls that their senior year will be ok.
Ali arrives back at Rosewood High and is greeted by stares and comments from the other students. The other girls are waiting for her outside and they all walk in together. Spencer is paged to the principal’s office and finds her mother standing there. She apologizes to Spencer and tells her that they have to go home to pack because she’s leaving Mr. Hastings and that Spencer is going with her.
Hannah and Lucas are walking down the hall together and are attempting to discuss something other than Ali. He tells her that his girlfriend is coming in to town from Philly and that he’s having a party to introduce her to his friends. He invites Hannah to join, and she asks if she can bring Travis. As she walks away, Lucas dials a number. I don’t know about anyone else, but Lucas is definitely on team Mona.
Spencer and Mrs. Hastings are at home packing and Spencer is trying to finally get some answers. Her mother tells her that Mr. Hastings did take her to a spa, but that she never checked in. She’d been working with a private investigator and discovered that Mr. Hastings was lying and simultaneously involving Melissa, which she is upset about. She says that her and Mr. Hastings had an understanding to keep Spencer and Melissa out of everything.
The girls are trying to get in touch with Spencer and are worried, given everything that’s been going on with her family. Aria tells them that she was planning on stopping by Jenna’s house after school and that she can stop by Spencer’s to check on her. The other girls don’t think she should go to Jenna’s, which upsets Aria. She tells them that she has to find a way to live with her guilt and that she’s allowed to be sorry for Jenna’s loss and she walks away from her friends.
Aria does stop by Jenna’s house and, mysteriously, the front door is open. She pushes the door and walks in to find Jenna crying on the bedroom floor. Jenna asks if anyone is there, but Aria stays quiet and rushes out of the house.
Ali, Paige and Emily are having a discussion at Emily’s house so that Ali can apologize to Paige for how she treated her in the past. Paige doesn’t seem to be buying it though. After Paige leaves, Emily starts getting ready to head out to the get together at the school. Ali asks if she can come, but Emily tells her that she invited Paige. It really doesn’t seem like Emily wants to spend much time with Ali lately, does it? Ali asks if she can hang out at Emily’s for a bit because no one is at her house, and as Emily goes to leave, Ali apologizes to her and tells her that their kisses weren’t just for practice.
Hannah is at the coffee shop waiting for her coffees and turns around to see Caleb standing behind her. He makes a slick comment to someone walking behind them and Hannah defuses the situation. As she’s asking him when he got back and why he hasn’t called her, the barista puts Hannah’s coffees on the counter, one for her and one for Travis. Caleb sees the names and tells her to grab her coffees. She grabs them and when she turns around again, he’s gone.
Hannah is drinking at the party Lucas invited her to. Travis seems unimpressed. He comes to her drunken rescue and brings her home safely.
At the get together, Paige tells Emily and Sydney that Jenna is back and that Shauna is dead.
Ali leaves Emily’s house and as she steps out, a parked car turns its lights on and begins to drive.
Aria is at her house and is startled by Jenna standing in the open doorway. Jenna tells her that she knows it was her at the house earlier and wants an answer as to why she was there. Aria takes the opportunity to apologize to her, but Jenna doesn’t seem to accept. As she goes to walk away, Aria invites her in for tea and to talk about Shauna. Jenna finally accepts and goes inside.
Ali is running from the car that she believes is following her. She runs inside of the Church and texts the girls an SOS. She goes to close the window and finds Mona standing there. Mona tells her that she knows they were there when Shauna was killed and that she can prove it. She wants Ali to leave town for good and tells her that no one wants her in Rosewood. A slap fest ensues and Ali walks out of the Church.
The girls, minus Hannah, are listening to Ali’s story of the night’s events. Aria asks her what she did after Mona slapped her, and Ali lies…again…and says that she just stared at her. What is this girls motive for all of the lying? I mean, I know the show is called Pretty Little Liars, but it must be exhausting to constantly lie about everything!
Ashley is comforting a drunk Hannah and finds out that Caleb is back.
Emily and Ali are discussing what Ali told her when she pulled her out of the barn. Ali tells her that she was the hardest one to leave.
Aria is at Fitz’s apartment discussing her guilt over Shauna. Fitz lifts up his shirt and tells her to let it go because Shauna shot him and he’s lucky to be alive. Aria apologizes to him and they finally kiss again! #EZRIA. At the same time, Emily is sleeping in Ali’s room and they begin to kiss as well.
The girls are walking through school and are met by Mona’s anti-Ali group. Lucas tells Ali that they were really hoping that she’d changed, but she hasn’t. Mona steps forward to tell everyone that Ali attacked her the night before and that she set her phone to video. She plays it for everyone, but the video is missing the part where Mona slaps her first. Ali rushes off into the bathroom and is confronted by the other girls. They’re all bothered by the fact that Ali is still lying to them and they leave her.
Jenna steps out of a car and is joined by Sydney!! I did NOT see that coming! Sydney comments on another car that’s parked there and Jenna says that it used to be hers. They sit down with Mona and are discussing how the girls are beginning to turn on Ali. Mona says that hopefully they can finally get rid of her.
Spencer and Toby are sitting in a car and he asks what the world is like without A. He tells her that she’s never alone.
Caleb is sitting on a swing set when Hannah finds him. He tells her that Travis is a nice guy and that he didn’t come to mess that up. He asks if she changed her hair because Ali is back. She receives a text and tells Caleb that he has to go with her.
Ali is trying to get Emily’s attention and keeps apologizing, but Emily doesn’t seem to want to hear it. Ali tries to kiss her, but Emily turns away. A Breaking News bulletin comes on the television about the girl who was killed and thought to be Ali. Everyone is gathered together to watch the bulletin and they hear that it was someone named Bethany Young. Bethany was a patient at Radley who seemed to have escaped on the night that Ali was “allegedly” kidnapped. As they’re all sitting there, there’s an explosion that shatters the windows.
Everyone walks outside to find Toby’s house on fire. Could it be the car that was parked where Jenna, Sydney and Mona met up?! As Toby rushes to see if Jenna was inside, all of the girls receive text messages.
The episode ends with someone dressed like A moving into a house. They turn up the volume on a police scanner and overhear the report of the explosion that took place and then pick up a doll and place it by a large dollhouse.
So it’s safe to say that A is back!! Noooooooo!!
Tune in next Tuesday, July 15th at 8/7c to see what lies ahead for the girls and their friends!
