Our favorite Rosewood liars are back for the Season 5 premiere! As a very quick refresher…the Season 4 finale ended with Ezra being shot by A and Ali’s mom being buried.
We begin tonight’s premiere episode with Ezra being rushed to the hospital. Noel is being questioned by the police because he had all of the girls phones, and as the ambulance drives away, we see A on top of it.
The girls decide to split up. Aria leaves with Ali, while Spencer, Hannah and Emily stay together. Hannah calls the police anonymously and tells them that Ezra may not be safe, so they should send someone to the hospital to keep an eye on him.
Spencer’s sister, Melissa, and their parents are at their home discussing recent events. In the last episode, Detective Holbrook told them that Alison wasn’t dead and that an unknown girl was buried in her place, unbeknownst to everyone. Melissa begins to cry and tells her parents that she has something to tell them. As she begins to explain whatever she has to say, they see police lights outside of their house. Detective Holbrook tells the family that Cece Drake has escaped police custody. They found an officer unconscious and haven’t been able to locate Cece or the patrol car. He tells them that Cece knew Alison was alive and that she knows where the other girls are, creating more danger for the girls.
Mona is standing at a café watching the news and pictures of Emily, Hannah, Spencer, Aria and Ali as ‘Missing’ appear on the screen. She looks at someone in the café and tells them that this changes everything.
Hannah, Spencer and Emily go into the hospital and see someone dressed in the usual black hoodie and black pants…A. They sit in the waiting room and pick up magazines in order to seem inconspicuous. A sees them and sends a text to someone that says “It’s happening. Follow the leader.”
Ali and Aria are checking in on Ezra with the receptionist at the hospital. They overhear someone call for Alison De Laurentis on the loud speaker, so Aria tells her she’d better go. Ali heads out by herself and A follows her. The other girls follow suit. She ends up alone at a playground and is confronted by A. The girls interrupt and ask if A really thought they’d leave Ali alone. They were the ones who had Ali paged in the hospital so that A would know she was there. As always, though, A is one step ahead of them and a large group of people dressed like A begin circling the girls. A police car drives by and breaks it up.
Melissa is talking with Mr. Hastings and tells him that she wants to tell Holbrook the truth. He tells her that she can not tell anyone what she told him. Ahhh! What is it?
Aria overhears one of the nurses calling someone in Fitz’s family about his condition. She speaks to the girls and lets them know what she heard. Ali tells them that there’s a place they can go to hide out. A police officer in New York calls Detective Holbrook and gives him information about the shooting. He writes down Ezra’s name and tells the officer that he’ll look into it.
The girls end up in an empty theatre, and Ali explains how she knew about it. She flashes back to when Ezra took her there on a date. As they raid the concession stand, Ali tells them that she needs to make a phone call. They seem suspicious, so Hannah follows to try and overhear the conversation, but fails.
Back at the hospital, Aria is shocked to see Shauna sit down next to her. Apparently Ali called her and asked for her to make sure Aria is ok. Aria’s not very happy about it and tells her she doesn’t need a watchdog. She falls asleep as she’s sitting in the waiting room and Shauna picks up Aria’s jacket and covers her with it. Could Shauna actually be good? You never know on this show!
As Ali sleeps in the theatre, the other girls are talking about what life would be like without A and that they feel as though Ali is shutting them out again…already. They all finally fall asleep and someone mysteriously walks into the theatre. We only see the legs, and it seems like a girl…but who? They walk up to Ali and put their gloved hand over her mouth, which startles her out of her sleep. It ends up being Cece. She’s asking Ali for help with something, which turns out to be the one way ticket that Ali had been saving for herself. Her and Ali meet with Noel and then say their goodbyes. It doesn’t seem like Cece is the horrible person that she’s being made out to be. I could be wrong though.
Detective Holbrook is looking up information on Ezra and discovers that his last name is actually Fitzgerald instead of Fitz. Is there something else that Ezra is hiding from everyone?
Ali goes back to the theatre and Emily is awake. She questions Ali about where she was and Ali tells her that there are some things she doesn’t need to know. Emily continues to try and get information out of her, so Ali comes clean about Cece. She tells her that Cece only wore the read coat because Ali asked her to and that she actually saved Emily’s life.
Aria wakes up and finds out that Ezra is in recovery, so she goes in to see him. When she walks into the room, she finds Shauna there first. Ezra opens his eyes and his vitals begin to crash. Aria frantically calls for the nurses as they call a code blue.
Mona is off somewhere trying to form her own army, made up of people who Ali ridiculed in the past, including Lucas and Paige. Paige tells Mona that she doesn’t want to be involved and as she starts to walk out, Melissa Hastings walks in and tells them that they don’t have much time. Paige decides to stay, and from the look on her face, it seems like she’s just going to serve as a spy.
Detective Holbrook discovers a theatre called ‘Fitzgerald Theatre’. It’s the same one that the girls are hiding out in. Ali is on the phone with Aria but the call drops. When the phone rings again, it’s Detective Holbrook. He asks if it’s Ali, but she quickly hangs up. He calls in for backup and informs them that he might have a lead on Alison.
The girls prepare to leave the theatre, but the lights cut out. They ask who’s out there and the lights turn on again. Shauna, dressed in a black hoodie is holding them at gunpoint. Ali asks her why she would turn on her that way, and Shauna says that she wants justice. They figure out that she wants justice for what happened to Jenna. As she continues holding them at gunpoint, Aria sneaks up behind her and grabs a gun that is used as a prop, even though it’s a real gun. She calls Shauna’s name and then hits her with the end of the gun, knocking her off of the stage. She hits her head and begins to bleed from her ear. Emily goes down to check her pulse and the girls discover that she’s dead.
They think the A issue is over, and they decide to go home. The episode ends with police officers entering the theatre and someone finding Shauna’s body.
So, my fellow pretty little liars… some questions for the rest of the season include:
Is Melissa working against her sister and the others?
Will Mona succeed at creating her little bitter-army?
What will be the tie-in with Ezra, the Fitzgerald theatre and his family’s financial history?
Will Paige end up working with Mona’s army or will she stay true to Emily?
Is the A situation really over? I highly doubt it!
Stay tuned next Tuesday, June 17 at 8/7c for episode 2!
