This week on Once Upon a Time show creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitzis promised ‘epic wish fulfillment’ and they sure delivered. Hook and Emma take a Back to the Future style trip to the past and must try their very best not to change a thing. Plus they revealed a glimpse at a very famous character that is coming to Storybrooke next season and it froze our hearts!
Before Hook and Emma got sucked back in time Mary Margaret and David hold a coronation ceremony at Granny’s, the second best thing to a ball at a castle obviously, to announce the name of their son. Before they can share the happy news Hook spills the beans that Emma doesn’t plan to stay in Storybrooke. Henry was confused and Regina was concerned. Emma runs away from the diner and Hook promises the group he’ll talk to her. Henry sends him with his storybook so she can remember where she belongs. Previous to the big shindig, Robin and Regina had some alone time. With her heart restored she admits to him that Tinkerbell told her she was destined to find a new happy ending with Robin. He tells her that timing must be everything. Oh Robin you’ll get why that’s funny, or not so funny, later.
Hook finds Emma where but by a nice little pond, always fleeing to the water this one. He asks her what it is she is looking for and she tells him it is a home. Emma notices the time portal, which has reopened, and she runs to investigate and Hook follows suite. The pull of the portal sucks them towards it and as Emma falls through Hook grumbles that one day he’ll stop chasing after Emma before he falls through after her. When they emerge in the past they notice that they’re in the time period when Snow and Charming met each other.
Hook and Emma have a dilemma they don’t know how to get back to the future, Emma even tries to explain to Hook how she isn’t Marty McFly. Emma gets a glimpse of Regina in full-blown Evil Queen mode. Hook has to stop her from interfering because it could have dire consequences. Before they set off to find Rumplestiltskin the only person they think can help them Hook insists Emma change into something that’s a bit less 21st century. The two stumble upon bandit Snow White about to rob Charming’s carriage. Emma gets so excited about watching her parents meet that she accidentally distracts Snow and ruins the whole encounter. They’re in big trouble now.
Now that Charming never met Snow he arrives at Midas’ castle for their engagement ball. Rumplestiltskin finds our time traveling pair and he doesn’t take too lightly to seeing Hook again. Emma has to convince him that they’re from the future and if he doesn’t listen to them he’s never going to see his son again. They catch Rumple up to speed and he offers to help them reopen the time portal, but they have to get Snow and Charming to meet since they’re the ones who messed it up. He shows them that Snow doesn’t have enough money to pay Blackbeard for passage on his ship and Hook gets an idea.
Emma and Killian venture off to find…well Hook. Killian tells her that she needs to distract the one-handed pirate captain. He won’t remember due to his inebriated state. Emma knows the easiest way to keep him distracted is to seduce him because Emma is obviously his type. Killian seems a bit jealous of his past self as he leaves to go offer Snow passage on the Jolly Roger. As Emma saunters over to Hook he not so surprisingly is taken instantly with her.
Killian heads to the Jolly Roger and Smee happens to notice the captain’s slight wardrobe change, priorities Mr. Smee. He tells Smee to bring Snow aboard and he offers her passage on his ship if she steals a wedding ring for him. Hook offers Emma a nightcap back at his ship and when they arrive he sweeps her off her feet and carries her aboard drunkenly referring to his ship as the Rolly Joger. Emma sees that Snow is leaving the docks so she knows that Killian has done his part. She tells Hook to find them a nightcap and she’ll be waiting below deck. Killian is still below deck so Emma starts kissing Hook to distract him. Killian’s jealously overflows and he punches himself out.
Rumple reappears to play fairy godmother to Emma and Killian, invitation to the engagement ball. He poofs them into some royal garb and changes what their faces will look like to other people. When they arrive at the ball they struggle to come up with names. Emma quicker on her feet than Hook introduces themselves as Prince Charles and Princess Leia, good one Emma. Emma wonders why Snow and Charming are always gushing about balls and the instant she sees everyone twirling in ball gowns it hits her. Killian offers to help her dance. As they two twirl around the dance floor they notice Charming has disappeared from the party. He walks in just as Snow is about to make away with his jewels. Their interaction is identical to their original meeting minus the location. Abigail alerts the guards that Snow White is in the castle.
Hook and Emma go off to make sure Snow got away and as she rides off on horseback a black knight appears. Emma prevents him from shooting his arrow at Snow and she notices that Snow dropped the ring when she fled. Uh oh. Hook tells Emma he can fight off the black knights and she should go get the ring to Snow. Regina stands in the way of that however and has her knights haul Emma away for helping Snow escape.
